Fatal shooting in Orange County

Deputies and U.S. Marshals attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant were met with armed resistance by a man with a loaded gun in the 800 block of F.M. 1131 in Vidor on Feb. 25, according to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

When officers arrived at approximately 5:15 p.m. and attempted to arrest the suspect, described as a white male Vidor resident in his early sixties, gunfire was exchanged. No officers were injured in the shooting, but the suspect was mortally wounded.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Texas Rangers, OCSO reports, "as is customary" when an officer-involved shooting occurs.
