Fatality Accident in Port Arthur

On Wednesday, Sept 10, at 11:10 p.m. Officers were dispatched to 2310 Birch St. in reference to a missing person. Family members reported the disappearance of a 16-year-old male who was last seen leaving the residence on a motorcycle. Officers searched throughout the night without finding the missing person.

Thursday, Sept 11, officers returned to the residence on Birch St. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept. deployed a helicopter to look for the missing juvenile. Port Arthur Police requested the assistance of the Beaumont Police Dept. K9 to assist in the search for the missing juvenile.  The tracking K9 led officers to an LNVA canal that runs parallel to West Port Arthur Rd. At the time a neighbor of the juvenile reported that he had discovered the body of the missing person, approx. ¾ mile north of where the BPD K9 was tracking. Investigation revealed that the victim was traveling at a high rate of speed along the canal, and lost control of motorcycle. Justice of the Peace Tom Gilliam responded to the scene and the name of the juvenile is not being released.
