Firefighters battled a large structure fire in a residential neighborhood in Beaumont on July 2.

According to a news release, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire in the 1600 block of Brooklyn St. When firefighters arrived, they found a dwelling heavily involved by fire. Firefighters had to fight the fire defensively at first in order to bring it under control, the fire department reports. After some time, they were able to enter the structure and complete the extinguishment of the fire. The house was vacant at the time of the fire, and there were no utilities connected. The cause the fire appears to be deliberate.

One firefighter was treated by Beaumont EMS and transported to the hospital for a heat-related illness.
