Fire on Highland Avenue in Beaumont

An unattended pot on a stovetop of a local apartment is believed to be responsible for a fire at the residence on May 8, Beaumont Fire-Rescue reports.

According to a news release from Beaumont Fire-Rescue, at approximately 11:34 a.m., units responded to a reported structure fire in the 4900 block of Highland Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found an apartment building with heavy smoke coming from one apartment. Firefighters were able to make a quick attack and confine the fire to the kitchen of the single apartment.

No one was home in the apartment at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. Other residents of the apartment complex worked together to call 911 to report the fire and evacuate the apartment complex before firefighters arrived.

Investigators say the fire appears to have been caused by a pot left on the stove. Only the occupant of the burned apartment was displaced in spite of water damage to three other units.
