The occupants of a home severely damaged by a fire in the 300 block of Major Drive on June 1 escaped the blaze without injury, reports Beaumont Fire-Rescue.

According Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Brad Penisson, firefighters responded to the structure fire at close to midnight. When they arrived at the home on Major, they found the garage of the residence fully involved by flames, and observed that the fire was spreading into the house. Once the flames spread into the attic of the home, it took firefighters over an hour to control the fire, reported Penisson. The fire caused extensive damage to the home. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours extinguishing smaller smoldering areas.

Investigators determined that the fire originated in the garage, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The occupants of the home were able to escape without injury before firefighters arrived. Red Cross was called to assist.
