Firefighters rescue one occupant from Beaumont house fire

On Jan. 4, shortly after 9 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a reported house fire at the corner of Harding Drive and Woodlawn Avenue, Beaumont Fire and Rescue Captain Brad Penisson reported.

When the first engine crew arrived, they reported heavy smoke conditions and initiated a quick fire attack. Neighbors reported someone was still in the house. The 24 year old occupant was found trapped by burglar bars in a rear bedroom. Firefighters were able to remove the burglar bars and help the victim escape through the window.

Beaumont EMS treated the victim for minor injuries on the scene. The fire appears to have been caused by a water heater and caused substantial damage to the home.
