Groves man dies after rear ending 18 wheeler

On Sept. 15 at about 1:45 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a two vehicle crash on I-10 in Orange County. The crash occurred near the Texas-Louisiana state line.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound on I-10. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet drifted onto the improved shoulder of the roadway and rear-ended a parked truck tractor semi-trailer.

The driver of the Chevrolet, David Alvarez, 24, of Groves, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 62-year-old Bobby Connell of Florida, was not injured in the crash.

On Sept. 16, DPS announced that David Alvarez passed away from injuries sustained in the accident.

This is an ongoing investigation as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this crash.
