Groves Police officer's squad car struck by intoxicated driver

A Groves Police Department officer's squad car was struck from behind by an intoxicated driver last night (April 15) at 9:37 p.m.

According to a press release by Grove Police,  the officer was traveling eastbound in the 6300 block of 25th Street when a 2009 Chrysler Sebring operated by a 35-year-old female Port Arthur resident struck the officers vehicle from behind while the officer was traveling approximately 30 mph. The suspect then went around the officer and fled the scene eastbound on 25th Street. Officers pursued the vehicle before stopping it in the 6700 block of 25th Street.

The female suspect was taken into custody by Groves police officers. She was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where she has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Detention with a Motor Vehicle, and Accident Involving a Motor Vehicle. The officer involved was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and has been released. The crash is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
