Guilty: David Carl Smith pleads guilty to manslaughter

A man originally charged with murder for the 2012 death of Vidor resident Amber Nicole Guillory and later extradited from the Netherlands pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in Judge John Stevens Criminal District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 12. David Carl Smith, 42, was sentenced to 10 years in prison relative to a plea agreement made with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. In exchange for the DA"s office throwing out the murder charge for which Smith was to go on trial for this week and changing the charge to manslaughter, Smith pleaded guilty to recklessly causing Guillory's death.
