Friends and families gathered at the Ford Event Center in Beaumont on Friday, Dec. 7, to celebrate the 22nd annual Feast of Sharing hosted by H-E-B. The grocer invited local residents to enjoy a delicious, nutritious free meal and entertainment at the event, and the residents responded in droves.

Hundreds of volunteers from H-E-B and the community prepared and served food and drink to a multitude of area residents at the feast. More than 5,000 meals were made for those in attendance with 1,250 pounds of glazed ham, 1,250 pounds of mashed potatoes, 1,100 pounds of vegetable medley, 100 gallons of brown gravy, 500 pies, 5,000 dinner rolls and soft drinks provide by H-E-B and partners.

“Feast of Sharing supports H-E-B’s continuous efforts to serve our communities and share a spirit of camaraderie during the holiday season,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B group vice president of public affairs, diversity and environmental affairs. “Over the past 24 years, Feast of Sharing has grown to be a holiday tradition in 32 locations throughout Texas and Mexico, and we appreciate the opportunity these community dinners provide to express gratitude to our customers.”

Numerous organizations and members of the community lined up to sign in as volunteers for the event. The Vincent Middle School Lady Mustangs basketball team greeted incoming visitors to the feast and welcomed them with open doors. Volunteers Clarence Polk and Robert Anderson of Miller Environmental served beverages at the event. Anderson said he was glad to volunteer for a good cause.

“I am just happy to help,” he said.

H-E-B started the tradition of the Feast of Sharing in 1988. Since then, the program has grown to serve 250,00 meals throughout Texas and Mexico. According to the organization, H-E-B intends to keep up that tradition in the years to come.
