Hardin County fugitive arrested in Nederland

Brittian Doyle Kerr

One of Hardin County’s “Most Wanted” is off the streets thanks to Jefferson County deputies and the utilization of Beaumont Police Department’s Crime Stoppers.

Wednesday, Oct. 9, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Warrant Division received a Crime Stoppers tip on the location of Brittian Doyle Kerr, who is listed on the Hardin County “Most Wanted” list. Kerr is wanted by Hardin County for felony criminal mischief and revocation of probation on two counts of forgery, by Eastland County (between Dallas and Abilene) for theft by check and by Nederland Police Department for failure to appear.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Rod Carroll, a tipster advised police on the location of Kerr — an address of a relative — and at approximately 9:27 p.m., deputies spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the tipster.

Deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop in the driveway of a residence. The vehicle accelerated across several yards and re-entered the roadway in the 2200 block of Avenue E in Nederland. Deputies initiated a short pursuit of the vehicle that ended with Kerr returning to the area of the 2200 block of Avenue where the initial pursuit began.

Kerr jumped out of the vehicle about 100 yards short of the house, climbed over a fence and hid in a garage, Carroll said. With police securing the perimeter, Kerr was taken into custody without further incident, Carroll added.

Carroll said that this was just one example of how citizens can utilize Crime Stoppers and help police remove wanted fugitives from the streets of Southeast Texas.

Nederland Police and Texas Department of Public Safety assisted in capturing Kerr, said Carroll.

Kerr was booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on $20,000 worth of bonds for charges of evading arrest with a motor vehicle, speeding, driving with an invalid license, failure to appear, theft by check, criminal mischief, and two counts of forgery.
