Highway 87 a mess for Orange drivers

A resurfacing project in Orange that began in July will finally be completed, allegedly, by January. Once again rain is being blamed for the hold up.

According to Sarah Dupre with Texas Department of Transportation, the project runs from the Orange/Newton County line to I-10 and its ultimate goal is to repave the entire stretch.  Paving is expected to be finished by Thanksgiving with the overall project completed in January.

Work started July 9 and is estimated to cost $3.2 million.

“This project is a type of maintenance project. It ultimately helps preserve the underlying base of the roadway.” Dupre said.
