Homeowner puts burglary suspect in the hospital, report police

Police report that a burglary suspect attempting to break into a house in Orange was at the hospital receiving medical treatment March 15 after the homeowner of the residence fought back against the imprudent intruder.

Lt. G. Keaton with the Orange Police Department stated in a news release that officers were dispatched to a residence on Lutcher in Orange at a little after 10 p.m. in reference to a disturbance. When they got the house, the 54-year-old homeowner told the officers that a 31-year-old male had tried to force entry into his home. The homeowner, who police indicate was "trying to protect himself and his property," stopped the would-be criminal, which resulted in the suspect's transport to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment of injuries sustained during the altercation.

No arrests had been made at the time of the release, on March 17, and the investigation is ongoing, said Lt. Keaton. Police request that anyone with information regarding the incident contact the Orange Police Department Detective Division at (409) 883-1095.
