Homicide in Orange

Police in Orange are investigating a shooting that claimed one man's life and injured another, reports the Orange Police Department.

According to a news release from OPD, at 4:24 p.m. on May 30, officers responded to the 200 block of Dewey Avenue in reference to a call reporting shots fired. When officers arrived at the location, they discovered 22-year-old Elijah Joseph Alexander suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the right side of his chest lying on his back on 2nd Street north of Dewey. Alexander was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Orange where he was pronounced dead.

While on the scene of the shooting, officers discovered a second individual suffering from gunshot wounds had presented to a local medical facility seeking treatment for injuries to his legs. Officers interviewed the second subject in relation to the shooting.

OPD Captain Cliff Hargrave said the investigation revealed the two men had been in a "verbal altercation" previously and shot each other following the dispute. No arrests have yet been made, and Hargrave said the investigation is ongoing.

"We've got a whole bunch of work to do," Hargave asserted. "We do anticipate filing a case."

The identity of the injured individual involved in the shooting is being withheld pending formal charges.
