Saturday, Nov. 18, at about 11:57 a.m., the Vidor Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Highway 12 due to a report of human remains found in the wooded area, VPD Lt. Mike Sanchez said in a release.

Upon the arrival, the officers did report locating human remains.

Investigation is underway to identify the remains, which officials said have been in the wooded area for some time.

Investigators believe the remains are from a male with a beard who was wearing a Corona shirt, shorts, and blue and black tennis shoes.

The Jefferson County Regional Crime Lab responded and assisted in processing the scene.

Orange County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Judge Hershel Stagner Jr. responded and ordered an autopsy.

The Vidor Police Department is investigating the incident, Sanchez said, and further information will be released as soon as the autopsy is complete and further details are obtained.

The department is asking that anyone with information about a missing person who fits this description contact the Vidor Police Department detective division. The lead detective in this case is Detective James Blankenship.
