Inmate death at Jefferson County Jail

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who died in the book-in area of the office on March 18 as 33-year-old Byron James Sessions of Nederland.

According to JCSO, Sessions was brought into the jail book-in area by Port Arthur police on trespassing charges at about 9 a.m. on March 18. Prior to being processed, the male subject lost consciousness. Facility medical personnel began CPR, and Acadian EMS personnel continued resuscitation efforts upon thier arrival to the sheriff's office. Unfortunately, reports JCSO, they were unable to revive Sessions, and he was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m.

The Justice of the Peace has ordered an autopsy. The sheriff's office is leading the investigation with the assistance of the Port Arthur Police Department.

"Our condolences go out the family," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
