Inmate who died in Jefferson County Jail identified

On Sunday June 4, around 6:30 a.m., an inmate in the medical infirmary of the Jefferson County Correctional Facility reported that his bunkmate, a 70 year old white male, was unresponsive. Jail staff immediately began CPR and notified EMS.  They continued the CPR until EMS arrived and took over. 

The inmate was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

The inmate is identified as Howard Fletcher. An autopsy was completed and final results are pending toxicology. Fletcher’s family has been notified.
