Inter-county pursuit ends with car aflame

A car chase that started in Hardin County, ended on Interstate 10 around Beaumont when the vehicle lost control, crashed and caught fire.

According to information from law enforcement, suspects Christopher Perez, 25; Brandon Clay, 22; Joseph Akens, 22; and Jacorri Collins, 21, were suspected of stealing computers from the Walmart in Silsbee early Thursday morning. This led to a chase from Hardin County into Jefferson County, with law enforcement from several agencies taking part in the pursuit.

Several attempts to spike the tires of the suspect vehicle were unsuccessful, as were the shots fired at the vehicle. A Beaumont patrol car rammed the suspect car, and the vehicle lost control, striking an emergency vehicle only sign before coming to a rest in the median near mile marker 836 on Interstate 10. The car burst into flames and the four black males were taken into custody. Two of the men were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released into police custody.

All four suspects have been taken to Hardin County Jail.
