Jaws-of-life used in 4 car accident on West Port Arthur Road

On the morning of Monday, May 4, Port Arthur Police Department responded to the 6700 block of West Port Arthur Rd. in reference to a major traffic accident involving four vehicles.  According to a press release, upon arrival to the scene, officers discovered one of the drivers was trapped inside the vehicle and the jaws-of-life was required for extraction. After being removed, the 49-year-old Port Arthur female was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital via Air Rescue for treatment of her injuries.

The investigation of the incident revealed a Jeep traveling north on West Port Arthur Rd. failed to control speed, and struck a ford truck in the lane ahead. The Jeep then veered left and struck a GMC pick up that was headed south, in the inside southbound lane. The fourth vehicle, a Chevrolet truck was also travelling southbound in the outside lane, struck the rear of the GMC as it was coming to a rest after the contact with the Jeep. No other injuries were reported.
