Jazz at the Lake features Lamar Cardinal Jazz Orchestra, Scott Whitfield, Jimmy Simmons

The City of Beaumont’s Jazz at the Lake series continues with the Lamar Cardinal Jazz Orchestra and Jimmy Simmons.  The free concert takes place Thursday, March 22, at 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Event Centre.

Special guest for the concert will be Los Angeles based jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, and vocalist, Scott Whitfield, who is internationally recognized for his work with many contemporary big bands, including those of Toshiko Akiyoshi, Johnny Mandel, Clare Fischer, Bill Holman, Bob Florence, and his own Scott Whitfield Jazz Orchestras (East and West). Whitfield’s discography includes 10 recordings as leader and more than 50 recordings with other artists. In addition to his own recordings, his compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded by such artists as Diva, Maurice Hines, The Pied Pipers, Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band, and Pete Petersen’s 23-strong Collection Jazz Orchestra.

Whitfield has appeared throughout the world, from Australia to Zurich, sharing his expertise on trombone technique, improvisation, composition, arranging, and jazz history.

In addition to live jazz, there will be concessions for sale and beer samplings. This event is free and open to the public and has been created to offer a networking opportunity for downtown professionals and individuals who are interested in viewing the Event Centre and Lake which have become the anchor of activity in Downtown Beaumont and the perfect backdrop for live, local music.
