Jefferson County Go Texan hosts golf tourney

The Jefferson County Go Texan Committee will host a golf tournament Sept. 13 at the Idylwild Golf Club at in Sour Lake.  The shotgun start at 8 a.m. will be a four-man scramble with prizes for closest to the hole and hole-in-one.  The Jefferson County Go Texan organization devotes its efforts annually to helping area youths. Through their association and participation with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, area youths are granted scholarships each year.

Jefferson County has been involved with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since 1972, and is one of the original counties to participate in the Go Texan program. Over the years, the program has grown and many activities have been added. These activities include competing in the Worlds Championship Barbecue Cook-Off contest held annually at the Houston Reliant Park complex.

In 2013, thirteen Jefferson County students were awarded a total of $30,000 in college scholarships, funds coming from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and from Jefferson County Go Texan, Inc.  The organization is a non-profit corporation chartered as a charitable organization emphasizing scholarships.

Sponsorship opportunities and signup information is available by contacting Brian Abey, (409) 781-9974 or Stephen LeBlanc at (409) 781-1512.
