Kilo of cocaine seized during traffic stop

Jefferson County Deputies Smith and Cardenas found a kilo of cocaine in a car driven by Sean Joseph. Latoya Williams was a passenger.

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reportedly discovered a kilo of cocaine during a traffic stop March 8.

According to Public Information Officer Deputy Marcus McLellan, Deputies Smith and Cardenas stopped a black SUV for a traffic violation on eastbound I-10 at FM 365 at 3:36 p.m. The male driver was identified by police as Sean Joseph and the female passenger was identified as Latoya Williams.

During the stop, deputies reported that Joseph appeared overly nervous and both occupants’ stories were inconsistent, making officers suspicious. Deputies requested consent to search the vehicle for contraband, but the driver refused. A Beaumont Police K-9 officer responded to the scene to search the outside of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted that there were possibly drugs inside the SUV. Deputies opened the vehicle and located a one-kilo block of cocaine inside the glove box.

Both Joseph and Williams were arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility where they were booked in for possession of a controlled substance. McLellan indicated the local DEA office would file charges in federal court for possession of the cocaine.
