On Nov. 22 at about 12:00 a.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a stop on a car near the intersection of 11th Street and 4th Avenue in Lake Charles for a traffic violation, the sheriff's office said in a release.

Deputies made contact with the driver, Kenion M. Boutte, 20, of Lake Charles, a registered sex offender, and learned he was in control of a vehicle that was not registered with law enforcement, making him in violation of his sex offender registration requirements. After further investigation, deputies also learned Boutte did not have a valid driver’s license.

Boutte was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with failure to register as a sex offender, not using a turn signal, and driving without a license. Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $51,600 with special conditions specifying that he cannot be released until it is cleared by probation and parole.

Boutte was convicted of aggravated assault of a child in Houston, Texas in 2015.

CPSO Sr. Cpl. Casey Steech is the arresting deputy on this case.
