Lamar freshman dies unexpectedly
Lamar University freshman Brandon Jamal Hill, 20, died unexpectedly after being taken by ambulance to an area hospital after becoming ill on Feb. 3, university officials said.
Hill was a resident of Missouri City and lived in Monroe Hall on the campus.
The only mention of the death was on the Lamar University website through a statement by LU President Ken Evans.
“It is with heartfelt regret that I have to announce the death of freshman student Brandon Jamal Hill,” the statement reads. “Brandon joined Lamar last fall. The death of a student affects the entire university community. Please join with me in expressing our deepest condolences to Brandon’s parents, family and friends who have been so tragically affected.”
Wednesday, Feb. 5, Lamar University Director of Public Relations Brian Sattler said the Lamar University police were still investigating, and that there was no indication of foul play.
“The Lamar University community is saddened to learn of Brandon’s death and extends deepest condolences to Brandon’s parents, family and friends,” he said.
The incident will remain under investigation pending the medical examiner’s report, Sattler said.
