Lamar Institute of Technology recently has been named “The Best Community College in Texas” for 2018, and is ranked 26th in the U.S., according to the national educational ranking website

This website produces comprehensive rankings, report cards and profiles for K-12 schools and colleges throughout the U.S. Rankings reflect the entire college experience, from freshman year to life after college. Niche also provides in-depth profiles and assesses colleges to produce annual grade reports for each school.

The website also ranks schools annually based on public data culled from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) and over 30 million college reviews and survey responses. Schools are judged on quality of academic programs, admissions, affordability and student life.

Dr. Lonnie L. Howard, college president, said, “I am delighted that we have been named the best two-year college in Texas for 2018. With a 92.8 percent job placement rate, as well as average first-year starting salaries for process operating graduates of over $77,000, this demonstrates not only is LIT helping to expand the middle class, but providing real opportunities to participate in the American Dream!”

LIT received 4 out of 5 stars in its national ranking. Statistics obtained from the DOE represent the most recent data available, from 2015-2017, according to Niche.

For this ranking, the website included post-secondary institutions where most degrees awarded are 2 years or fewer. The same methodology is used to produce the Overall Niche Grade for each ranked school, as well as additional community colleges.
