Lamar University recruits eight for ASCENT program

Lamar University has recruited eight scholars for its 2014 ASCENT program. The ASCENT program is funded by the National Science Foundation and provides students with full tuition and other support. ASCENT, headed by Dr. Kumer Das, director of the program, targets students currently enrolled at Lamar with two years left in their math or computer science degree, as well as transfer students who have graduated from a community college entering Lamar’s math or computer science programs. ASCENT is part of an initiative to improve the six-year graduation rate among math and computer science majors at Lamar. An orientation session took place on May 19.
