Largest bust in Liberty County history
The largest marijuana bust in Liberty County history took place Tuesday, Oct. 18, near the intersection of County Roads 2050 and 2058 in the northeast part of the rural county.
According to investigators, more than 300 acres were dedicated to the growth of the plants and they reported it was the largest, most sophisticated marijuana operation they had seen to date. Authorities say they suspect a Mexican drug cartel was behind the operation.
Law enforcement found guard posts in the wooded area, as well as a barracks and kitchen. There was also a 20-foot deep irrigation pond the size of a football field, and about a mile of water supply pipelines. No one was found on the property at the time of the raid.
