Liberty police arrest Port Arthur officer for assault

Liberty Police made two arrests in reference to a late night assault that took place on June 30, according to a news release from the department. Police responded to the 5000 block of Briar Grove in the Ridgewood subdivision shortly after 1 a.m. in reference to an assault. 

The initial investigation determined that a 30-year-old female had been assaulted by individuals who were at a party next door to her. The victim had been an attendee at the party when a disturbance started, and she was allegedly assaulted. The victim was transported by City of Liberty EMS to Liberty Dayton Regional where she received medical care for injuries received in the assault.   

Liberty Police continued their investigation and on July 3 a Probable Cause Affidavit was presented to Judge Mike Little who issued Class A Assault warrants for two people. Samantha Rene Taylor, 27, of Liberty, and Ashton Tylor Moss, 24, of Hardin were arrested. Moss is a police officer with Port Arthur Police Department. Liberty Police Chief Thomas Claunch reported the department has been notified about the charges. 

Both subjects were arrested at their homes, and were transported to Liberty County Jail.
