 Lightning strike in Hardin County kills one man, injures his father

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Honey Island man who was killed by an apparent lightning strike Feb. 6, Sheriff Mark Davis said in a release.

Kountze Fire Department and Acadian EMS responded to a location off Starlight Road in Honey Island at 2 p.m. on Feb. 6. Authorities discovered the body of 22 year Sebastian Ramos, who was unresponsive. CPR was initiated and he was transferred via ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim's father, 57-year-old Raul Ramos, was transported via private vehicle to the hospital as well and suffers from second degree burns. According to the investigation, the father and son were standing close to one another while repairing some cattle fencing at the location when the lightning strike occurred. A nearby cow was also knocked to the ground during the strike.
