Local neurosurgeon writes new book on Jesus' crucifixion

The Execution of Jesus the Christ

While Dr. Mark Kubala knows there has been much discussion on the crucifixion through biblical texts and other research, he uses his medical expertise to further examine the physical trauma experienced by Jesus Christ and his cause of death in his book 'The Execution of Jesus the Christ,' he said in a release.

Dr. Kubala is a neurosurgeon who has been practicing in Beaumont since 1966, according to a release.

He said that his book includes a historical background on life in Judea, a chronology of Jesus’s last week and the medical aspects of the crucifixion.

“For many years, I have been thinking about, studying and trying to understand what happened to Jesus’s body from the time he was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane, through his illegal trial and condemnation to death by Pontius Pilate, to his death from crucifixion,” Kubala said. “What were the physiological changes that took place in this healthy 33-year-old male, who had just eaten a Last Supper meal on Thursday evening and was dead 18 hours later?”

Since crucifixion is not fully understood by the public today, Kubala explained, he presented the book in language more easily understood by non-medical professionals to have a greater sense of Jesus’s suffering when executed.

Mark J. Kubala, MD, FAANS, FACS, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Texas. He completed his neurosurgical training at Baylor University, Houston, and the Mayo Clinic. For twenty years, he represented neurological surgery in the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates. Kubala received the Medal of Valor for distinguished service to the field of medicine, the highest award given by the AMA, in 2012.

'The Execution of Jesus the Christ' is a text not only for Christian readers, but also those who wish to understand the historical and medical factors regarding one of most famous figures of the world.

The book, which was released Feb. 3, is available for sale on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and through West Bow Press.

Dr. Kubala will be holding a book signing on Saturday, April 8 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fleur Fine Books in Port Neches, 1720 Magnolia Avenue, Suite 104.
