Drowning victim identified as Shaquill Dixon, 17
Detectives have identified the young man whose body a maintenance worker found at the bottom of the Magnolia Pool located at the Sterling Pruitt Activity Center as Shaquill Dixon, a 17-year-old resident of Beaumont. According to preliminary autopsy reports, the cause of his death was drowning.
At 7:29 Friday morning, June 29, a maintenance worker for the pool discovered that someone had broken into the pool house. He phoned police to report the burglary and as he was checking the premises, he discovered the body of a young black male at the bottom of the pool. The young man was deceased.
Detectives and patrol division officers responded to the scene and they requested the assistance of the Beaumont Fire Department dive team to recover the body. The BPD Crime Scene Unit also responded to process the extensive scene. Justice of the Peace Kenneth Dollinger ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death of the young man.
Detectives are still in the process of identifying and interviewing potential witnesses. At this point in the investigation, police say the believe that Dixon was one of several people who broke into the secured perimeter fencing. They also believe that the group might have had a pool party at the darkened pool complex. Sometime during that party, several of the youths broke into and vandalized the pool house. During that time, police believe that Dixon may have drowned as it was reported by his family that he did not know how to swim.
The Beaumont Police Department is still in the early stages of this on-going investigation and will release more information as it becomes available.
