Man arrested for multiple manslaughter charges

Stevan Shonn Smith, 32, was arrested on Sept. 16, and taken to the Orange County Jail for three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.


The most recent of those crimes occured in 2018, when Smith caused the death of 46-year-old Pedro Jose Soza-Orozco off groves, who had stopped to help a stranded motorist. A two-year-old also died on scene as a result of the crash. In 2014, Smith caused another fatal crash, according to DPS. The victim, 74-year-old Richard Shelton of Port Arthur was traveling northbound on S.H.62, when he was struck by Smith traveling south. Shelton was pronounced dead at Baptist Hospital Orange. 


Smith’s conviction record doesn’t stop there. He was charged with assault in 2011, racked up two DWI charges in 2013, was charged with manufacturing/delivering and possession of a controlled substance in 2014, theft of a motor vehicle in 2015 and charged with carrying a prohibited weapon in 2016.
