Man in critical condition after weekend shooting
A Sunday morning shooting Feb. 24 left at least one man critically injured after a quarrel on Gulf Street.
Police received a call of shots fired about 2:17 a.m. and arrived at the Magic City Lounge at 1390 Gulf St. to find a 21-year-old man unresponsive, according to a Beaumont Police Department press release.
The unnamed man had a single gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and was immediately transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was rushed to surgery, the press release said.
BPD spokesman Joe Ornelas said police are still investigating the shooting and are waiting for the victim to recover.
“The guy is gonna be OK,” Ornelas said. “But we have no witnesses.”
Ornelas said police are still waiting on ballistics to determine the weapon used in the shooting but aren’t sure the victim will cooperate and identify his attacker.
“They’re waiting on him to go ahead and fully recover and see if he’ll cooperate with us and give us something,” he said. “He’s one of those guys that might not cooperate. We’ll see.”
No other injuries were reported.
