Man fires rifle at family at Port Arthur gas station

Port Arthur Police officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Memorial Boulevard in reference to shots being fired on Dec. 21 at 10:01 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot wound victim in the parking lot of M&M Superette located at 2800 Memorial Boulevard. The victim advised officers that he was inside of his vehicle with his small child and wife when an unknown subject began firing a rifle at his vehicle, according to the PAPD release. The suspect was hit by a bullet while in the vehicle and drove across the street for help before collapsing in the parking lot of M&M Superette. The victim provided a description of the suspect and vehicle.

Additional officers arrived on scene and located the suspect still in the parking lot of the Raceway and placed him into custody. Officers were able to recover the weapon used and additional weapons and evidence. The suspect was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the release.

The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital in Beaumont. His injuries are believed to be not life-threatening. The victim's child and wife were not injured during this incident.
