Man impersonating officer in Orange County

A man impersonating a peace officer reportedly stopped a Bridge City man on Friday, May 9 at about 9 p.m. on Interstate 10 East on the Neches River Bridge near the Orange County line, deputies reports. Investigators are looking into the report but want citizens to be on the alert for the possible pretender.

According to a report from the Orange County Sheriff's Office, a 24-year-old Bridge City resident said he was stopped by a heavy-set, bald black male driving a dark-colored SUV with flashing lights just above the visor of the vehicle. The man reportedly was not wearing a uniform, did not identify himself or mention any agency affiliation and had no badge or weapon, according to the report. The victim says he believed the man to be impersonating an officer after the suspect allegedly pursued him and then stopped him after utilizing the flashing lights of the vehicle.

Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson said investigators are looking into the claim. Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect should contact OCSO at (409) 883-2612.
