Man sentenced to 30 years for indecency with a child

Bobbie Morgan

Judge Raquel West sentenced Bobbie Morgan, 30, to 15 years in prison for two felony offenses of second-degree indecency with a child in accordance with a plea bargain agreement. The two cases will run consecutively for a maximum of 30 years.

The cases came to light in August 2016 after two children made independent outcries that Morgan had touched them inappropriately on their genitals and forced them to touch his genitals. These offenses occurred in June of 2015 and again in July of 2016.  In each case, the children made outcries upon being asked by adults if anyone had been inappropriate with them.  The children were interviewed individually at local children’s advocacy centers and the grand jury indicted Morgan on May 17, 2017.

The cases were investigated by the Beaumont Police Department and prosecuted by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Both cases were second-degree felonies, carrying a range of punishment of 2 to 20 years in prison. The two sentences will run consecutively and total a maximum of 30 years. The defendant must be paroled on the first sentence before beginning to serve his second. Morgan will become eligible for parole after he serves a minimum of half of his sentence. He must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
