Man who stole baby formula, wipes from HEB has five theft convictions

Charles Ryan Venable

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Charles Ryan Venable, 35, of Beaumont, for stealing baby formula and baby wipes from HEB on FM 365 in Port Arthur.

June 28, witnesses at the grocery store told Port Arthur police a man in a blue shirt ran from the store with a basket of merchandise that he did not pay for, the probable cause affidavit states.

The officer located Venable in a red Ford sedan behind the Jack in the Box on FM 365.

Venable was “sweating profusely,” according to the officer’s statement. He admitted to taking the merchandise and told the officer he left the goods in a stall at a carwash across the street.

The officer located the grocery cart, still loaded with merchandise.

The store owner stated that the unpaid merchandise was worth $157.37 and they wanted to file charges.

Venable was then transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

According to the indictment, Venable has previously been convicted of theft five times: on Aug. 30, 2012, July 25, 2014 and Sept. 14, 2015 in Jefferson County; on Feb. 14, 2013, in Harris County; and on May 30, 2013 in Hardin County.
