Manhunt rattles Beaumont’s West End

Two men are in custody after police say they were prowling a West End home in order to burglarize it.
Police responded to the 800 block of Shakespeare on Wednesday, April 3, about 11:52 a.m. to find a woman who told them two unknown men rang her doorbell and began prowling her garage.
“When we got there, we didn’t find him at the time,” said BPD spokesman Rob Flores “But officers continued to search the area and they found two males in the same vicinity.”
As officers interviewed the subjects, one man pulled what police described as a sawed-off shotgun on officers.
“An officer was able to wrestle the shotgun away from him and both subjects took off running,” Flores said. “The person who pulled out the shotgun, that’s who we’re still looking for. We haven’t been able to find him.”
Police apprehended one subject after a short foot chase and the other hours later.
“We saw him crossing the canal right there around Mid-South Bank in the 500 block of Dowlen,” Flores said of the first subject in the moments after the chase. “And then we chased him from there to Buckner’s and took him into custody at Buckner’s on Calder.”
Flores said at least one man they caught may have been burglarizing the West End for some time, but for now, police have charged the man with evading arrest.
“Burglary detectives will come and they probably will be able to tie him to some burglaries in this area from property that he had on him,” Flores said.
No injuries were reported.
