Missing elderly couple found near High Island, one dead

Wednesday, June 21, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office of two elderly people reported missing Tuesday, June 20.

One of the individuals was reported to be suffering from dementia and the other was reported to have Alzheimer’s. They were believed to be in Galveston County, possibly on the Port Bolivar Peninsula.

Wednesday, June 21, at 5:49 p.m., while deputies were monitoring beach conditions at the intersection of Highway 124 and Highway 87, a passerby notified them of a vehicle approximately one mile east of Highway 124 on the beach. He reported seeing an elderly male and female near a truck who appeared unresponsive.

Deputies responded and located the individuals and vehicle on the beach. An elderly, white male was found to be unresponsive and appeared to be deceased.

The female was found to be conscious and disoriented. EMS was called and she was transported to University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Detectives from Chambers County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and confirmed the two elderly people were in fact Claude Credeur, 85, and Lena Credeur, 80, who were reported missing a day earlier.

This is an ongoing investigation by both agencies. Foul play is not suspected at this time. The female’s current condition is unknown.
