Mississippi man busted with pound of pot and $50K

On Sunday, April 15, at around 11:00 am, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation of a vehicle bearing Mississippi license plates on I-10 near mile marker 832. The driver of the vehicle appeared very nervous when the Deputy contacted him. The Deputy requested permission to search the vehicle. The driver, identified as Cary Thompson, 31, from Gloster, Mississippi, consented to the search. During the search the Deputy located $50,000 in a hidden compartment in the front of the vehicle and 1lb. of marijuana in a secondary compartment.  Thompson was booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on charges of possession of marijuana, and money laundering. The bonds were set at $25,000 and $300,000 respectively.
