Mom with two kids stopped on I-10, 42 pounds of marijuana found

June 14 at about 4 p.m., deputies with the JCSO Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop on I-10 near Smith Road. The vehicle was being driven by 38-year-old Benina Villarreal of Rio Grande City, Texas. She had her 18-year-old daughter and her 9-year-old son as passengers.

While speaking to Villarreal, deputies became suspicious and requested consent to search her vehicle. Consent was given and deputies discovered 17 bundles (42 pounds) of marijuana concealed in panels. The street value is estimated at $84,000.

Villarreal was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on the charge of possession of marijuana and the bond was set at $25,000. The car and the child was released to the 18-year-old daughter.
