More construction plans for Beaumont

According to Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)spokesperson Sarah Dupre, Texas Sterling Construction Company has been named as the new contractor on the Concord Road project in Beaumont’s North End.

“Work on the $11.2 million contract will resume in the upcoming weeks,” Dupre announced on Tuesday, Sept. 1. “The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.”

In 1997, TxDOT identified the area of Concord Road between Lucas Street and Highway 105 as in need of serious upgrades. More than a decade of work to acquire funding and conduct a bid process culminated with Tradeco Infraestructura, Inc. contracted to perform the work with an estimated price tag of $11.8 million to complete the 1.78 miles of construction in 2012. Tradeco Houston-area Director of Business Strategies Rex Frohlich said at that time the contract awarded from TxDOT had a tentative start date of November 2012 with an end date estimated in May 2014.
