Motorcycle and pickup truck collide on Texla Road

UPDATE: 12:37 p.m. - All lanes of Texla Road in Orange County (FM 2802) have reopened following a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck, reports Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Stephanie Davis. 

According to information from DPS, troopers responded to the multi-vehicle accident at about 10 a.m. on Sept. 14. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound on FM 2802. The driver of the Chevrolet slowed to make a left turn into a private driveway when the vehicle was rear-ended by a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. 

The driver of the motorcycle, a 30-year-old man from Vidor, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn at the scene. He has been identified as 30-year-old Mark Everett Powell.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 39-year-old man from Orange, was not injured.

All information is preliminary as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) urges caution to drivers traveling Texla Road in Orange County as troopers investigate a serious multi-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck, reports Sgt. Stephanie Davis on Sept. 14. 

According to Sgt. Davis, DPS received a report of a multiple vehicle crash near Texla Road in Orange County at about 10 a.m. At the time of this report, troopers and other emergency personnel were on the scene and details were "extremely limited."  There are reports of injuries, stated Davis, but the extent of those injuries are unknown.
