Motorcycles wreck on I-10

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating an accident involving two motorcycles Sept. 24, reports Sgt. Stephanie Davis.

According to Davis, troopers responded to reports of a major accident on I-10 in Jefferson County near mile marker 834 at about 9 p.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2015 Harley-Davidson was traveling eastbound on I-10 followed by a Suzuki motorcycle. The driver of the Harley-Davidson hit a groove in the pavement and lost control. The second motorcycle made an evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with the wrecked Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Both motorcyclists fell off their bikes and landed on the paved shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the Harley, 44-year-old Jimmie Lofton of Port Arthur, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. Lofton was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Suzuki, 49-year-old Christopher Hilstock of Port Arthur, was not injured in the crash. Hilstock was also wearing a helmet.

All information is preliminary as troopers continue to investigate this crash.
