Motorcyclist dies in two-vehicle crash

A Hardin County man driving a motorcycle died in a two-vehicle crash in Hardin County on Feb. 19, reports the Texas Department of Public Safety.

In a news release, Trooper Stephanie Davis reported that at approximately noon Friday, DPS was notified of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 96 at Trotty Horse Road in Hardin County, about three miles north of Silsbee. Investigators learned that a Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. 96 when the driver of a Cadillac SUV traveling southbound on U.S. 96 slowed down to make a left turn into the crossover and then failed to yield right of way, striking the oncoming motorcycle.The 51-year-old male driver of the motorcycle, Mark Allen Decuir of Louisiana, received emergency medical care at the crash scene but did not survive. He was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Cadillac, Jose Mendez-Ramos (29) of El Salvador, was not injured. He was transported and booked into the Hardin County Jail on the felony charge of criminally negligent homicide. This offense is a state jail felony that carries the possibility of confinement in prison for not more than two years and a fine of up to $10,000.
