Multiple car break-ins reported along Gulfway Drive

Multiple vehicles have been burglarized in Groves, according to the Groves Police Department.

Seven vehicle burglaries were reported in the 5300 block of Gulfway Drive on Dec. 16.

Another burglary was reported in the 5500 block of Garfield Avenue on Dec. 18. The victim told police that a lunch box, Motiva badge, TWIC card, moisture reader and medication were stolen from the car.

On the same day, a pink wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 5900 block of Georgia Street.

The next day, Dec. 19, two more vehicles were broken into in the 5300 block of Gulfway Drive and a third vehicle burglary was reported in the 5400 block of Gulfway Drive. In a fourth incident, a men's wallet was stolen from a vehicle in the 6100 block of Gulfway Drive.

These break-ins near the holidays follow the pattern that Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley warned about in a recent Facebook post Dec. 19.

"We have had four reports of 'jugging' since Friday, Dec. 15," Riley wrote. "Two cases were reported in Beaumont, one in Groves and one in Jefferson County. During each incident, the 'jugger' followed the victim from a bank and then smashed the vehicle window and took money."
