Mural honors the sacrifice of veterans

Mural at Atria Collier Park honoring veterans

When Engage Life Director Cheri Courts came to work for Atria Collier Park three years ago and saw the wall honoring veterans, she immediately wanted to paint a mural for these men and women that put their lives on the line to make sure we could keep our freedom.

Atria Collier Park is an assisted living community in Beaumont.

“To me this was how we as a community could honor and say ‘thank you’ to all of our veterans,” said Courts, who has an extensive background in art.

It took awhile to be able to focus on getting the wall completed, but on Dec. 25, 2015, the strongest Marine she has ever known and respected went home to his final resting place. This man was Courts’ father. His death gave new meaning to the mural and was the boost she needed to complete this project at the end of April.

“The residents are very excited and proud of their wall and bring anyone that comes into our building to see it,” Courts said.
