“Music by the Stars” featured several country artists who performed for a full house Friday, Feb. 17, at the Woods Plaza Event Center in Vidor.

The songwriting contest, sponsored by Bow Tie Entertainment and KFDM, offered $1,000 cash to the winner, Bart Alan Woytek, for his song “Candle in the Dark.”

Vidor Boy Scout Troop 220 presented the flag for the national anthem, sung by Paige Price, event organizer Donna Little said in a release. Johnnie Andrus also organized the event.

Kelly Brewer from the local band Unkle Jam opened up the night with the show producers’ pick “Something in the Water.”

Other performers included Tim Nichols and Bubba Moore, followed by headliners Dean Dillon and Scotty Emerick. Dillon wrote over 50 songs for George Strait and Vern Gosdin among others, according to Little. Emerick has written “many hits” for Toby Keith.

“Music by the Stars will continue to present music events throughout Southeast Texas to promote the talent we have in our area,” Little said. “Future endeavors include building a Texas Music Museum to be located in Vidor.”
