Nederland approves temporary ordinances for Imelda relief

Due to the circumstances involving homeowner repairs associated with Tropical Storm Imelda, the Nederland City Council approved waiving the permit fees for residential reconstruction and demolition.

Building permits and inspections will still be required; only the permit fees will be waived. Such waivers only apply to Imelda-related repairs. This procedure was utilized following Hurricanes Rita, Ike and Harvey in order to facilitate repairs.

The City Council also approved a one-time variance to the Nederland Code of Ordinances, allowing the parking of travel trailers as a result of a declared state of disaster. The placement of travel trailers on properties for Imelda-related situations is authorized through March 31, 2020; thereby suspending the typical process of approval by the Trailer Park Board of Appeals.

Another one-time variance approved by the City Council authorizes the placement of storage buildings or PODs as a result of the declared state of disaster. The placement of storage buildings or PODs on properties for Imelda-related situations is authorized through March 31, 2020.
