Nursing home employee accused of assaulting disabled patient

A nursing home employee was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury indicted Robyne Renai Mitchell on Nov. 8 for knowingly causing bodily injury to a disabled patient.

Robyne Renai Mitchell, 50, is accused of pushing an elderly woman into a bed and pressing her knee into her back on April 11, while working at the Oaks of Beaumont on Milam Street.

While caring for the patient, Mitchell allegedly turned her onto her left size, which is paralyzed and climbed onto the bed, pushing her down and hurting her, according to an affidavit from the Beaumont Police Department.

Mitchell has been charged with injury to a disabled person, which is punishable by up to 2 to 20 years in state jail and a $10,000 fine.

Mitchell has a criminal record, including minor charges like misdemeanor theft and criminal mischief charges from the early 90s.
